Life

My mother is in the hospital.  My best friend is going to be going to the hospital for a very similar reason.

I feel as though I'm surrounded by craziness, and I can't get away.

God.

I voted [9185]

That's right.  Got my ass out of bed at 7 am and went to the polls.

Hopefully it wasn't a waste.

Broke down... [3506]

So, I broke down and brewed a pot of coffee.  I told myself that I wasn't going to drink any coffee during November, but here I am, staring at that tempting pot of liquid brown gold.  Thusfar I have resisted.  I have had tea, I've had hot chocolate.... It's just not the same. I need bitter deliciousness that is coffee.... I must resist.

I really want it, though.

Day One Down, Twenty-Nine More To Go..

So.. I finished my first day.  I barely made my word count and didn't actually get it updated until like.. 29 seconds after 12.  That's alright though, there's always tomorrow.

I managed to write nearly 1000 words in 28 minutes, so I'm not entirely sure why it's been a struggle for me to hit my 1667 on any given day.  Maybe I'll just have to have races with myself... or someone else.  Who knows?

I'm definitely only getting out broad strokes.  It's unfortunate because the beginning is nearly perfect.  Oh well, life will go on.

My goal is to hit at least 2500 a day from here on out.  I'm sure it's totally doable.

Sprinting towards the finish line...

So, I technically finished my husbands costume.  It's fantastic, if I do say so myself.  He needs a vest, which is unfortunate.  We didn't think it would, but it just doesn't look finished without one.  Hopefully we will be able to find something at DI or Savers, but if not I have two huge bolts of black fabric that could work.  Finding the time to work on yet another sewing project is maddening.  Oh well.

I'll post pictures of it sometime later.

So sick...

Well, the good news is that this happened before November 1, I should be over it by then.

Halloween has to be my favorite Holiday of the year.  Aside from the fact that it's history appeals to my sense of twisted imagination, I love love love dressing up.  If I had a just a little bit  more confidence I would do it every day of the year.   This year hubby man and I are going as Erebus and Nyx.    While it would have been incredible to have done the whole traditional toga thing, we opted for a more stylized bastardization of Renaissance-1800 hundreds adaptation.   He's wearing deep blue and black, I'll be in purple and black.  I'll post pictures sometime next week.

In other costuming news, my nieces had a tea party for their mutual birthday party.  My sister, who's one of the most incredible people on the planet, managed to plan this incredible Tea Party/Mad Hatter themed party between planning a funeral, working full time and attending a full load of classes.   How amazing is that?   She, our mom and I did all of the sewing for the "zany" costumes we wore to the party.  The girls had Alice in Wonderland inspired dresses, the oldest in  hot pink and electric blue and the youngest in Neon green and electric purple.   The boys all wore vests with gold sequined collars.  Us women merely wore aprons, but we found some pretty fantastic patterns for them.

The face painter was amazing!  Our face painter last year just wasn't that good.  The kids (and quite a few of us adults...) enjoyed her work.

This one is the youngest.  She was already sleepy apparently.
This is the oldest, and he was very unhappy about having to wear purple at first.
This is the oldest girl who adored her costume like none else. This one is Hubbyman.  He looks like an old man!He always stands like that in pictures.  ;-)

A Convert...

I ought to begin by saying that until now I was a die-hard Blogspot user.  It didn't matter that all my friends had Live-Journal, that it might be easier to use.  I had my Blogspot and I was stickin' to it.  Okay, the fact that I was required to get a Blogspot account for a group novel project in one of my creative writing classes has a little bit to do with it.  I'm not an incredibly regular poster.  I promise to try and fix that.

To be perfectly honest, the only reason I did sign up for an LJ account was because of what they are doing for NaNo.  It's incredible and I wanted  to at least be a little part of it. Thank you LJ!!!

With NaNo coming up, I anticipate quite a few reasons to post, even if it's only to rant that my project isn't going well or my family wont leave me alone to my creative madness (although they were pretty good about it last year....).  I'll probably babble on about various projects I'm working on that aren't writing involved as well.

For now, I'm going to crawl back into bed with a steaming mug of lemony-honey black for a few more hours before commencing on the final sprint towards Halloween (costumes to make) and November 1.
